This glossary helps us to know construction words in English and in this way have a greater vocabulary and understanding of some words.
backup wall

the wall which forms part of the main structure in which the mansonry is attached
Example: It fits in the horizontal masonry joint and ties the brick veneer to the backup wall or structure.

brick courses
noun
is a layer of the same unit running horizontally in a wall. It can also be defined as a continuous row of any masonry unit such as bricks, concrete masonry units (CMU), stone, shingles, tiles, etc
Example: it relieves the the weight from the brick courses below

concrete block
noun
A concrete block is primarily used as a building material in the construction of walls
Example: If the backup wall is concrete block, there are ladder-type systems that fit in the concrete block mortar joints.

dovetail insert

a joint made by inserting tenon on one piece into mortise holes in the other
Example: Here's a dovetail masonry anchor that fits in a dovetail insert.

gravity load
Noun
Gravity loads are the vertical forces that act on a structure. The weight of the structure, human occupancy and snow are all types of loads that needs to have a complete load path to the ground.
Example: A floor slab is designed to support the imposed gravity load.
This load travels from the floor slab to the beams that support it.

hanging off

Example: Basically, the brick is hanging off of the structure at each relief angle or shelf angle.

In masonry, mortar joints are the spaces between bricks, concrete blocks, or glass blocks

a type of wire in the forms of a ladder that fits in the joints that have ties that come off the wall for attaching the mansonry

Example: They tie the brick back to the structure and support it laterally.

Noun
These ties are used to connect multiple wythes of masonry, often of different materials; anchor masonry veneer to backing systems other than masonry; and connect composite masonry walls.
Example: we use masonry ties. Masonry ties fit in the horizontal mortar joints and are attached to the backup wall or structure

wedge anchor
Noun
"Wedge anchor" is a generic term for a type of anchor used to fasten a variety of materials to concrete. Some companies have different brand names for their wedge anchors such as Kwik Bolt, Power Stud, and Thunderstud.
